But seriously, What do you mean "using the Vista CD to access startup repair wont work" I think you're going to have to boot from the DVD, do a repair, and then make your recovery disk. Search for your error here http://support.microsoft.com/search/?adv=1 it could be several things. If you mean you don't have a Vista disk good luck with that.
