try going in the box and disconnecting the disk drive from the PSU and mother board
(and in case you where planning otherwise….i’d also shutdown and unplug the computer BEFORE going into the box, XD)
then you’ll be able to boot up and service the real issue…of which i am not entirely sure but that should stop the messages from spaming you

Question from MDilla: Anyone know how to fix the issue of laptops connecting to both wired and wireless connections in Win Xp?
I work in IT and an ongoing issue I have with the laptops in our environment (I am laptop support for my company) is that the machines (all IBM systems, various models) constantly connect to both the wired and wireless connections, resulting in various network related problems (such as NOT automatically connecting network drives, slow system performance due to the machine being confused as to which connection to use, etc.). I am aware that I can shut off the wireless radio manually but is there something I can do that will permanently fix the problem?

you can change the settings on your DHCP server and basically issue max 1 IP per host name. We have that in my company (75 laptops in/out constantly) but it’s not affecting anything on our network? are you sure that is your problem.
If your network drives are not connecting check you GP settings – you can force refresh/update even if your network is really really slow (default is don’t update)

Question from NickJr: XP issue – Help needed to correct my computer.?
While trying to restart my computer said that ../windows/system32/config/system file was missing or corrupted. It asked to insert the original Windows XP setup CD and try to repair. (My OS was XP home)
I tried but it was not successful.
I have a XP professional edition. I tried to setup the XP professional edition; setup was successful (on a different folder- this time I used a folder with name WINXP).
But what about the Antivirus and other software installations? Is there any better way to handle it? I welcome suggestions and ideas.
Note:
Now I have two Operating systems at my computer. When I restart, it asks me which OS it should start. If I say XP Home, it never starts. Professional edition starts but all other software installations are inaccessible.
Please help me with your suggestions. Thanks!
Thank you pngarrett.
But the real issue is not getting the prompt to choose the OS. It is how to access the software installations done earlier (with the XP Home)? Do I need to reinstall everything for the Professional edition? Is there any easier or better way to manage this?

In the Control Panel on the Systems icon, Select the Advanced tab, Under Startup and Recovery select Settings, under the Default operating system, click the drop-down arrow and select Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Next check the “Time to display list of operating systems and make the time “0″, click ok to close.

Question from rocky: Windows XP Firewall I clicked on the the exceptions tab under it says Windows Firewall is blocking incoming.?
In Windows XP Firewall I clicked on the the exceptions tab under it says Windows Firewall is blocking incoming network connections including the programs and services selected below.
In Exceptions Programs and Services it lists:
1.File and Printer Sharing
2.Remote Assistance.
3.Remote Desktop
My question is should these 3 things be checked or unchecked?
I’m not using them so should I place a mark on them?

Its fine to check them. Remote assistance and remote desktop would only really be used if you were part of an intranet. They are a security hazzard! And if your printer isnt set to be shared anyway then no need to worry about that one.
I have remote desktop and all terminal services disabled entirely from my PC as they are useless to the vast majority of users. As are a lot of other Windows functions that tend to start up in the background.
Leave them checked. It wont make a difference if your not using them. But I’m suggesting you disable Terminal services if you dont use them as it just wastes resources!

Question from ♥и‡є©у♥: Why do I keep hearing a Windows XP Critical Stop error warning sound on my PC & no box pops up to tell me why?
My Mom had turned off the sounds on the computer in Sounds & Audio Devices, but she gave the computer to me & I put the sound scheme back to Windows Default. Now I keep hearing that warning sound: Windows XP Critical Stop, but no box pops up to tell me what the error is. (You can hear the sound if you go to control panel, sounds & audio devices, sounds & if you customize your sounds listen to the Windows XP Critical Stop).
Anyway, how can I find out why I am hearing this warning error sound if I am not getting a pop up box? Since this computer was just given to me I don’t know what else my mom has done & she doesn’t have the system recovery disk or all the paperwork that came with the computer so I don’t want to try to do a full system restore. It seems to be working fine most of the time except for when it makes that warning sound or when it freezes. If you know a lot about computers & know what sound I am talking about, what would you do?

Go into Start > run > type msconfig (and hit enter) > goto the startup tab and select disable all > reboot and see if you get the same problem.
Use this MS tool to identify and un-check the offending startup app: AutoRuns for Windows. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx
OK Buddy?

Question from simonjtaylor212: thumbs.db — how can I stop XP from warning me every time i try to delete a thumbs.db file? It´s unnecessary!
I wish to have th thumbs.db file as it contains a caché of thumbnails! but deleting it is not a problem, so why does windows warn me that it it a system file, and should not be messed with?
I don`t want to turn off hidden files!
But I want to cache the thumbnails! And if i´m deleting a folder of videos or pictures, where is the harm in deleting thumbs.db? I know it´s a system file but there is no risk in deleting it!
Popular answer:
Answer by pissedoffmeagan
That’s the kind of hidden file that should not be deleted.
It’s a required system file. That only appears when you haved picutres being saved on the computer.Go to My Computer
click on Folder Options then go to the View menu.Check mark the do not cache thumbnails and click apply.
