I want to know the best fully mac compatible scanner out there (the scanner would mostly be used for business documents). Price is not so much of an issue as quality of scanner, but cheaper is better as long as the scanner works well. you know of any? Also, what is the best scanner software for the mac. As far as i know, VueScan is one of the most popular… do you know of a better one?

I find HPs tend to be mac compatable, as for scanning I normally use preview which comes with the mac

No matter what I scan or copy I get a vertical black stripe about 1 inch wide from top to bottom, on the right side. The glass is clean, and I can see no loose or broken belts inside the glass.

Do you have vista? I had a printer once that stopped working when i upgraded to vista. Nothing I could do as there was no vista driver support. Try uninstalling everything and reinstalling. I think with all HP printer / scanners you have to make sure you install the imaging monitor, this is the program that enable the buttons on the printer to function. Scan, copy, cancel, that sort of stuff.

I think Windows Live One Care Safety Scanner sets a restore point prior to making changes to your computer so you should be able to do a system restore to that point and see if it comes back.

I have a Uniden BC92XLT scanner and I have a consistent issue with it. I’ve taken it to several races and randomly it will switch from the channel I’m on to the UHF frequency. I don’t have the handset set to scan or search, it’s locked in and switches on its own. Is there anyway to keep this from happening?

I recently bought a Lexmark 2670 printer/scanner/copier, but I am having a horrible time trying to get it set up. When I try to do the automatic alignment the printer prints out the alignment page just fine, but then it wants me to place that printed page onto the glass and scan it to complete the automatic alignment–this is where my problem is. Every time I try to scan the page it comes up as an automatic alignment error. I’ve attempted the automatic alignment probably 20 or 30 times already. I’ve tried uninstalling the software and reinstalling…I’ve tried pretty much everything I can think to do.
I messed around and tried scanning + copying some things to see if it was a problem with the scanner bed. Looks like it is. When I scan something it only scans the left half of the page…leaving the right half black. When I copy something it does the same thing. Why would it do this? Do you know how I could remedy this problem?
It would be nice to have the scan/copy functions, but if that issue can’t be remedied my main need is for the printing. It prints the test alignment page just fine….but it won’t let me print any documents until the alignment is complete. Is there a way I can bypass this automatic alignment thing? …That is if I can’t fix the problem with the scanner/copier.

If it is just keeps printing alignment sheets, try this procedure and keep in order
Good Luck
Please follow exactly and IN ORDER.
1. Turn off the printer and wait 10 seconds. Turn it on again
2. Let the printer print the test page.
3. After the test page is printed, disconnect the USB cable connecting the printer to your computer. DO NOT turn off the printer while disconnecting the USB cable.
4. Place the test page on the scanner glass and press the SCAN button on the printer. The ON light will flash as the page is being scanned.
5. Remove the test page when the ON light is steady.
6. Finally, turn off the printer and wait another 10 seconds. Then turn it on again. No more printing test pages! Yay!
(You may now reconnect the printer to your computer via the USB cable.)

When the scanner is turned on the power and ready light flicker and so does the scanning lamp. The computer wont recognize the scanner either. I’m on a mac G4 computer with osx 10.4.1. Ive tried pretty much all troubleshooting techniques I have been able to find. Does anyone know how can I make the scanner discoverable to the computer and what might be causing this problem???

It sounds to me that you have a power problem!
Make sure your scanners power adaptor is working properly!
And that the one you are using really is meant for your scan er!
Check Volts and Amps on it! It´s not normal that the lights on it´s flickers!

I recently purchased an HP Scanjet 3500c FlatBed Slide Scanner from a friend’s friend who no longer needed it. She was unsure what was wrong with it. I plugged it in and downloaded the appropriate drivers, yet it still refuses to work. It scans, but it only scans black and sometimes “white noise”. Could it possibly be an issue with the light bulb or is it simply too terrible to fix?

Yes, it could be the light source or the mounting. Get it checked from a good hardware person that the alignment of the light-mount is okay. If Yes, that means the scan-card is gone.
