When I boot it, it doesn’t even continue. An error message appears, “Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM.” What caused that to happen? It said I can repair it using the XP CD. Problem is, I have a CD but notebooks do not have a CD drive. How can I fix it w/o having to use a CD?

You mentioned you don’t have CD ROM. One question…do you have back up on HDD?

If yes, only then you can repair w/o CD ROM, You can repair from HDD Backups. Or else you have to have a usb CD/DVD ROM (Guessing you have USB ports) to repair.

After installing my Sims 3 game onto my Toshiba Netbook, an error popped up saying that my video graphics card wasn’t good enough. I’m looking towards getting one that doesn’t require opening up my new netbook, but I also don’t want to spend a lot. Are there any external video graphics cardsthat could meet the Sims 3 requirements? Thanks!

You can’t upgrade laptop/notebook graphics cards so many people ask this.

The reason is all the hardware on a laptop except the RAM and Hard drive is fixed to the board the CPU is not in a socket and the graphics “card” is not on a card its just a chip fixed to the motherboard.

Desktops have hardware in sockets or cards that’s why they can be upgraded.

I have not seen an external graphics card but i doubt they would be any good as they will be slowed down by the USB interface

if you want to play the SIms 3 you are going to have to get another computer or a laptop with “dedicated” graphics

I just bought an Asus netbook from Best Buy. I have cable internet and a modem. My husband plays Xbox live all the time and never has a problem with the connection. I have been getting a error message that says “The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading” when on the net. I have checked my network and my signal is strong. Am I doing something wrong?

You will need to replace the Wi-Fi adapter in it. Don’t be afraid, it is very easy. Order one of the adapters listed on the linked page (just stay away from the ones that say they are for IBM or HP) Do not buy the half height ones. Once you have it, just unscrew the rear plate used for upgrading ram, and remove the wireless car by removing two screws from it and unplugging the antennas. Then connect the antennas to the new unit and put it in just like the old one. Don’t forget to secure it with screws.
The wi-fi cards that come with the eee pc are total crap.

It sounds like your laptop battery is not making a full connection to keep your laptop power on. if you do not see any errors on the screen before the laptop shuts down, then it seems like a power source issue. Your best bet would be to take the battery out and dust out the battery compartment to ensure nothing is in the way of the connections. Then replace the battery and plug in the laptop to the wall unit and try again. If this problem persists, it could be a power source inside the laptop. I would not work on this personally, I would recommend taking to a repair shop. Try the battery cleaning first.

maybe your wireless connection got turned off accidentally. switch it on so it can detect wireless networks.

I have an asus eee pc 1005hab-blu001x. I’ve had issues with software in the past- but this is something I don’t know where to even start to fix. At this point, when I hit the power button, the asus screen shows up, then the loading f10 screen, back to asus and it goes blank. Not like the screen turns off- it’s more of a lit black. Windows simply never loads. It won’t even go into safe mode. The power button stays on and immediately shuts down when pushed. I know that the laptop was plugged in during a thunderstorm recently, and it started this issue literally right after it. Could this be the effect of a power surge?

Yes a power surge can cause a hard shut down of the operating system.
It also can damage the internal components like the mother board but first would try re install or repairing the operating system. If you do not have the system recovery flash drive or recovery disc set order them from Asus Support by model and serial number.
This would be the best starting point and cheapest before looking into internal problems.
Always unplug the lap top or desk top during a thunder storm or buy a excellent power surge protector.

I don’t know if you’re going to find a laptop with the specs to handle StarCraft 2 on max settings, for under 0.

I think you’re going to have to settle for either paying more if you want to play it on max settings, or take a laptop that can handle it on lower settings.
