Question from Nova: Will Quicktime run any video?
The issue: We need to make a video of a person reading lines for a script. We have been asked to submit the video in quicktime form. I have read some on the web but it seems rather unclear as to whether a digital camera that can record video will be saved in the format for QT. I see that QT is saved as .mov ….. Help?

It really depends on your camera. I would check in your manual camera manual, or check with the manufacturer of your camera. Most new ones record in some form of HD. Either way, you can convert just about any file to a different format just by google convert (source format here) to .mov.
Note: Quicktime will also play other formats natively such as .avi, .mp4 (higher quality videos). See Wiki source below.

Ok so my laptop kept giving me this warning saying it was low on disc space (and i had no idea what that meant) so i went on there to uninstall some programs. Question from cFLYNNN: Why is my laptop slow slow, in general?
I’ve had my Dell Latitude D600 since Christmas ‘06, aka the end of 2006, and when I bought it, it ran great… Started up in less than 10 seconds…
Now it’s July of 2008, I’ve since than had to replace the screen and entire motherboard because of accidents, no changes to the laptop, that I can tell, other than speed.
I use to have a lot of programs on it but because of the dramatic change in speed over time, I’ve deleted all my programs, with the exceptions of…
Mozilla Firefox 3.0
AIM
Windows Live Messenger
Frostwire
iTunes
Ad-Aware
and AVG Free
Those are the ONLY programs I have right now, other than programs, like, Quicktime, and DivX, and the necessary Microsoft programs which, if I deleted, would screw up my system…
According to Windows, my :C/ Drive has 17.7 GB Used and 56.8 GB of Free Space, pther than program files I have about ~1000 pictures and ~300 pictures, which isn’t that much of the 74.5 GB of space my laptop has. So… I think I’ve given enough info, what’s wrong?

If it says it needs to be updated, obviously it’s not up-to-date. You’ll have to update it.

Question from Chris Y: RealPlayer won’t play……..?
I can’t play my 3gpp2 files on RealPlayer.
It’s supposed to be able to play it, my version is new enough and is probly the newest one.
It can play other files fine just not the 3gpp2.
This is what it says every time i try to play a 3gpp2 file:
Cannot start playback
More information is at the RealNetworks Customer Support Website.
There is also a button titled “More Info”
when i click it, it says:
Cannot start playback.
You are attempting to start playback while the playback engine is busy with another function. You will not be able to initiate playback until the other action is stopped or completed. Attempting to play by clicking on a file or link while converting media format, transferring to device, or burning a CD is a common way to cause this warning. This warning will not affect the current process and is only in place to explain why playback did not occur.
If ur gonna recommend another 3gpp2 player, don’t recommend QuickTime.
VLC only plays the video of the 3gpp2 file. There isn’t any audio on 3gpp2s. I can play mp3 fine on it.

You may have gotten a bad download. Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/remove programs, right click Real player and choose remove.
Shut down, reboot, and go and reload Real Player.

I’m assuming you’re using a Windows Vista Laptop or Desktop?
If so, you may need to change your computer’s defaults. If using vista go to the Control Panel under the start menu. When the screen comes up go to Programs. Go to Default Programs. Under Default Programs look for the file type of your video file. When you find it, change the default for that file type to Moviemaker. After new settings are applied try to open the file again.
Good luck!

Question from Toasted Tomatoes: Compatibility Issues on Sony Vegas with .mov files(H.264)?
I just got a new, HD camera, and it’s footage is .MOV & codec H.264, but when I got round to editing I found that, at first, when Sony Vegas imported it, & I dragged it into the player, only audio came up, and that audio was silence! Then, at later attempts it said “Warning: An error occured when opening one or more files. The file format plugin for the specified format was not properly initialized”. I have installed Quicktime already. HELP!!!
